Statement Day: What It Means & Why It Matters

At Butler/Till, we are making a statement in the business landscape. Every single person at Butler/Till is not just an employee, but an employee-owner. Every year, we celebrate the direct tie we have to our hard work on Statement Day. Keep reading to learn about what Statement Day is and why it matters to everyone here at Butler/Till. 

What is Statement Day? 

As employee-owners, we are excited to learn how much the stock is worth each year. All 300+ employee-owners gather for the stock value to be revealed, a moment that is filled with lots of anticipation.  

Every employee gets their own statement, which shows their new account balance. Employees get shares of stock based on tenure—the longer you stay at Butler/Till, the more shares you receive. This inspires a sense of dedication among our employee-owners, reducing turnover and keeping top talent on the team.  

Why Do We Celebrate Statement Day? 

Statement Day is only possible because Butler/Till is an ESOP, which stands for Employee Stock Ownership Plan. 10 years this year, Butler/Till has been a 100% employee-owned enterprise. Job security, increased productivity, greater wealth, being a part of a team that is highly engaged and accountable to one another, and overall happiness are all proven benefits that go far beyond job title and salary when you join an ESOP. 

“Being a part of an ESOP creates a unifying effect across our entire agency,” says Kendall Knaak, Senior Creative Specialist at Butler/Till. “We are all working toward a shared goal, and on Statement Day, we rally around and celebrate!” 

Why is Statement Day Important? 

The ESOP Association writes, “An ESOP is a retirement plan—but also a way of living and running a company.” Beyond providing extra financial benefits to our employees, being an ESOP enhances our unique culture as an agency. That culture is transparent, inclusive, and collaborative—every contribution is valued, and everyone’s entrepreneurial spirit is celebrated. As an ESOP, we look forward to Statement Day every year to celebrate everything we stand for as a company.
